Parliamentary Career
Hardeep Singh Puri has been a Member of the Rajya Sabha, Parliament's upper house, since January 2018. He represents Uttar Pradesh. He first won a by-election and was re-elected in 2020. He also contested one Lok Sabha election, in 2019.

Appointed Minister without a seat in Parliament
He was sworn in as Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs on 3 September 2017. Under Article 75(5) of the Constitution, a minister who is not a Member of Parliament must become one within six months.

Elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh
Declared elected unopposed in the by-election for the seat vacated when Manohar Parrikar resigned from the Rajya Sabha on becoming Chief Minister of Goa. The term ran to November 2020.

Contests the Lok Sabha election from Amritsar
He was not elected. He stayed a Rajya Sabha member and was sworn in again as a minister on 30 May 2019.

Chairs the Consultative Committee of MPs for the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas
As minister he chaired a meeting of the Consultative Committee at Manesar. According to PIB, 27 Members of Parliament attended.

Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for Uttar Pradesh
The Election Commission has scheduled polling for Uttar Pradesh's Rajya Sabha seats on 16 October 2026. His current term ends on 25 November 2026. As of 23 September 2026 no nomination had been announced, and this site does not speculate about one.
